The good book has a story that runs between Numbers 13 and 14. The sum of it is that a spying mission consisting of a dozen men was sent to spy the land meant for occupation. After the sojourn they returned with the first grade produce of that land and the intelligence report.
The fruits in their excellent taste signified the good land, fertile soil, good climate and all one would desire in prime land. The fruits signified fertility and excellence. Suffice to say, the report indicated that the land was flowing with milk and honey and was every man’s dream.
Added onto that was the fact that the occupants were TOWERING GIANTS!! The spies indicated that in comparison to the settlers they had seen themselves as grasshoppers and thus had no hope of conquering the land and taking it for the nation.
10 of the spies shuddered and opined that it would be better to forgo the juicy grapes and settle to for the grim dust of the desert because of fearing the towering giants. They missed the point. It must be clear that to be in possession of prime land you must be a fighter! You must be ready to fight for your land because it is desired by everyone. To obtain or possess and attain quality is a battle filled with a lot of challenges and only those ready to face the difficulties can occupy the land.
2 spies, Joshua and Caleb never wavered. They knew that prime land came at a price. They admitted that the giants were there but they had the resolve to take the land. They did not mask the risk and effort called upon them to possess the prime land, they did not deny the existence of the giants but all they did was create a desire for the milk and honey that went beyond the towering giants.
The 2 spies eventually prevailed. The nation eventually saw beyond the towering giants. They saw to the good of the land, they saw to the fertility of the land that they wanted. They envisioned the 1st grade produce and all the good that would come with occupying. That good towered over the giants and they went for the land.
The year will have goals and intentions. The more crucial and luxurious the goal, the more towering would be the giants. Like the 10 spies one can opt to eat the grime of the desert out of fearing the towering giants or like the 2 spies one can opt to face the giants and see the cream, milk and honey beyond them. Your perception and hunger will determine whether you stay in the desert or you battle to prime land.
Giants are not the destination. See them as benchmarks; see them as milestones and not as un-crossable rivers. In all the times keep the envisioned land in mind, the vision will make you see beyond the imposing giants. Hunger for the land, hunger for the quality grapes and detest the desert grime. That will boost your resolve and up your courage to take on the giants and take the land.
Tomorrow as the sun rises, the giants will be there. How you see them and how you desire your goal will determine whether you see beyond the giants.
Bring on the giants!!
Great stuff man
