We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light. – Plato

Silence is like sitting in the dark. After some time, the shadows and silhouettes become defined.

It is not the shadows that would have solidified. It is our eyes and perceptive ability that would have adjusted and sharpened.

I have watched my camera lens try to pick and clearly define my objects of interest to me. On auto zoom it will zoom in and out until it picks and defines with a crystal clearness the optimal image.

At times all we need to do to see the issues and matters ailing us is to sit the darkness out and let our perceptions deliver the true image to us.

We should not fear sitting in the dark, the dark does not define us.

The dark defies us , dares us to panic, make rushed decisions and up and run. Then the darkness would have won.

Sit out the darkness, get clear images, do not make decisions on hazy images. It will dawn to your eyes soon and you will be able to pick your way out of the maze without headbutting walls and tripping in the labyrinth.

Phindela’s Muses is the pen name of Nqobile Ncube. After much prodding i reluctantly waded into transferring my thoughts to the electronic notebook. I write as I see. I write as I feel. I write as I hear. I prod the deepest vivid image I can conjure and if at least one person derives some good from it then I am a happy man.

  1. Well said son of Phindela. The tragedy of mankind today is that they have embraced darkness and shunned light. Consider all the wars, the neverending conflicts and the general moral depravity yet Jesus says Im the light of the world. At another stage He says nobody lights a lamp and put it under the bed but we have decided to do so to further the interests of darkness. Plato is more relevant today than ever before.

  2. There is something about darkness, – there is that darkness that fazes out and there is that darkness, that envelopes and is stifling

There is a darkness that is suffocating and tormenting . A raging darkness .

It’s true though- sitting still and standing unwavered by the darkness(fate and fortune ) is a mission. The true beauty is in the ability to wait it ,staying calm and making bold and sound choices

It takes enormous strenght to wait it out .

  3. Well said my brother, Fear is our biggest enemy and we have allowed it to rule our lives by believing in it, I remember when we were young we made to believe that kulenunu ebusuku(terror by night) and as a child, why because a child does not have fear unless he/she is told that there is something in the dark or the devil had power in our native we usathane ulamandla, This stigma grew in us yet the word of God says in his word he said Idid not give you the spirit of fear. But of sound mind.
