I have learnt , albeit a little late that every conversation is a lesson to me. I have learnt by listening and observing and the lessons have carried me through life.
In the past I was an aloof traveller who would saunter to his seat and hide my face in a phone or book. I realise I missed thousands of lessons from the university of life.
I have since learnt not to let a chance to converse pass and boy have I been enriched. The people I least expected to give me information gave me worthwhile nuggets that helped make my perception , planning and thinking clearer.
From the university dropout now loading ships at a bay, to the slightly tipsy traveller , to the proprietor of the boarding place, all these have been impeccable lessons and I can tell you if I could rewind the clock I would go back and give an ear to those people I gave an aloof shoulder.
To me conversation has the equivalence of learning beyond where my scope has been to. The dreamers expand my horizon, the complainers make me appreciate the positive I have, the high flyers make me see nothing is impossible, the down trodden call to my compassionate depth and the lost appeal to my missionary instinct.
Do not miss a chance to strike a conversation. It’s a worthwhile lesson.
